2022 NFL Draft: Third Round
Mock Draft and Analysis By: Gregg Schutze
as of April 27, 2022
65. Jacksonville Jaguars – Dylan Parham, 6’3”, 311lbs, OC, Memphis
04/07/22 - David Bell, WR, Purdue
The Jags get an athletic center to replace Brandon Linder, who retired this offseason.
66. Detroit Lions – Quay Walker, 6’4”, 241lbs, LB, Georgia, Jr.
04/07/22 - Quay Walker, LB, Georgia
The Lions need a playmaker at the LB position. Walker is a versatile athlete with sideline-to-sideline ability who should be starting early in his NFL career.
67. New York Giants – Channing Tindall, 6’2”, 230lbs, LB, Georgia
04/07/22 - Nik Bonitto, OLB, Oklahoma
The Giants will be happy to have Blake Martinez back after coming off an injury that caused him to miss all but three games in 2021. Martinez, who has racked up at least 140 tackles in each of the previous four seasons, will need help
68. Houston Texans – Martin Emerson. 6’2”, 201lbs, CB, Mississippi State
04/07/22 - Jalen Tolbert, WR, South Alabama
Houston is lacking depth at the CB position and Emerson would give the Texans a physical presence in the secondary and has the length to affect the catchpoint.
69. New York Jets – Nick Cross, 6’0”, 212lbs, S, Maryland
04/07/22 - Nicholas Petit-Frere, OT, Ohio State
Expect the Jets to target a safety to team with Jordan Whitehead and Ashtyn Davis and Cross has the range and instincts to be a presence on the back end of the defense.
70. Jacksonville Jaguars (from Carolina) – David Bell, 6’1”, 212lbs, WR, Purdue
04/07/22 - Nick Cross, S, Maryland
The Jags brought in Christian Kirk and Zay Jones to team with Marvin Jones and Laviska Shenault in the WR corps, but I envision Doug Pederson targeting more weapons for Trevor Lawrence. Bell, a two-time 1,000-yard WR, is a precise route runner with tremendous body control and excellent hands.
71. Chicago Bears – Darian Kinnard, 6’5”, 322lbs, OG, Kentucky
04/07/22 - Phidarian Mathis, DT, Alabama
The Bears continue to address the trenches by selecting Kinnard, who played RT at Kentucky but will likely kick inside to OG at the next level. Kinnard's body type and playing style is reminiscent of current Buffalo Bill Cody Ford.
72. Seattle Seahawks – Nicholas Petit-Frere, 6’5”, 316lbs, OT, Ohio State, Jr.
04/07/22 - Tariq Woolen, CB, UTSA
Not only is LT Duane Brown a free agent, but so is RT Brandon Shell. While Jake Curhan could fill the role, adding another OT to challenge for the starting spot is a must. Petit-Frere has experience at both OT positions at Ohio State, but I think his best tape came when he played on the right side of the line.
73. Indianapolis Colts (from Washington) – Calvin Austin, 5’8”, 170lbs, WR, Memphis
04/07/22 - Jeremy Ruckert, TE, Ohio State
No TY Hilton on the roster? No problem. I expect Indy to take a look at Memphis' Calvin Austin, a shifty slot WR who racked up 1,000 yards in each of the last two seasons with the Tigers. He wins at the line of scrimmage and is so sudden in the open field. He'll pair nicely with Michael Pittman, Jr.
74. Atlanta Falcons – Isaiah Spiller, 6’0”, 217lbs, RB, Texas A&M, Jr.
04/07/22 - Drake Jackson, LB, USC
The Falcons finished the 2021 season with the 31st-ranked rushing offense and while Cordarrelle Patterson is a dynamic weapon, they need someone who can be a legitimate three-down back. Spiller was a two-time 1,000-yard back for the Aggies and showed he can be powerful between the tackles and had the lateral agility to bounce the runs outside to daylight. He'll compete with Patterson and Mike Davis right away for playing time.
75. Denver Broncos – Christian Harris, 6’0”, 226lbs, ILB, Alabama
04/07/22 - Chad Muma, LB, Wyoming
Denver needs to be more athletic at ILB and Harris proved to be a force coming downhill, as evidenced by the 3.0 sacks and 4.0 TFL he racked up against Georgia in the CFP National Championship Game. His 4.44 speed speaks to his explosiveness downhill, but I think Harris struggles laterally and in coverage, which is why he falls to the Broncos in Round 3.
76. Baltimore Ravens – Cam Jurgens, 6’3”, 303lbs, OC, Nebraska, Jr.
04/07/22 - Cam Taylor-Britt, 5’11”, CB, Nebraska
There's no question the Ravens target a center at some point in the draft with Bradley Bozeman leaving in free agency. Cam Jurgens, a converted TE, is an athletic center who is effective climbing to the second level where he can take advantage of his athleticism.
77. Minnesota Vikings – Chad Muma 6’3”, 239lbs, LB, Wyoming
04/07/22 - Leo Chenal, LB, Wisconsin
Minnesota signed Jordan Hicks to team with Eric Kendricks, who is now 30 years of age and will be a free agent at the end of the 2023 season. I expect the Vikings to select another LB as they prepare for the future. Muma reminds me of fellow former Wyoming Cowboy Logan Wilson with his sideline-to-sideline range, pass rush ability and cover skills.
78. Cleveland Browns – Wan’Dale Robinson, 5’8”, 178lbs, WR, Kentucky
04/07/22 - Wan’Dale Robinson, WR, Kentucky
The Browns did trade for Amari Cooper to be Deshaun Watson's primary target in the passing game, but with Jarvis Landry and Rashard Higgins not on the roster, I expect Cleveland to target at least one WR to team with Cooper and Donovan Peoples-Jones. Robinson began his career as a versatile weapon at Nebraska, but really became the focal point of the Kentucky offense as a transfer in 2021, racking up 1,334 yards with the Wildcats. He'll be an explosive option working out of the slot in Cleveland.
79. Los Angeles Chargers – Daniel Faalele, 6’8”, 384lbs, OT, Minnesota
04/07/22 - Abraham Lucas, OT, Washington State
Storm Norton struggled mightily at RT so if the Chargers can't land Trevor Penning in Round One, expect them to targetthe mammoth Faalele. At 6'8" and 384 pounds, it's hard to miss this mountain of a man. Edge rushers have to call an Uber to get around him, but he also is surprisingly light on his feet for his size. He could be the answer for LA opposite Rashawn Slater.
80. Houston Texans (from New Orleans) – Sam Williams, 6’4”, 261lbs, Mississippi
04/07/22 - Isaiah Spiller, RB, Texas A&M
I expect Houston to double up on edge rushers with the lack of depth at the position. Williams is a bully who plays with speed, physicality and bend coming off the edge. He always seemed to live in opposing backfields, showing up as a disruptive menace with 12.5 sacks in 2022.
81. New York Giants (from Miami) – Greg Dulcich, 6’4”, 243lbs, TE, UCLA
04/07/22 - Greg Dulcich, TE, UCLA
The Giants lost Evan Engram to free agency and while they did bring in Ricky Seals-Jones, they need a legitimate weapon up the seam for Daniel Jones and Dulcich was just that at UCLA. The former walk-on WR showed off impressive speed and the ability to separate down the field. His blocking is still a work in progress, but he'll be a weapon at the next level.
82. Atlanta Falcons (from Indianapolis) – Leon O’Neal, 6’0”, 204lbs, S, Texas A&M
04/07/22 - Channing Tindall, 6’2”, 230lbs, LB, Georgia
The Falcons need to improve their secondary and adding a physical safety like O'Neal would do just that. He's a veteran safety who isn't afraid to come down and mix it up in the box.
83. Philadelphia Eagles – Jamaree Salyer, 6’3”, 321lbs, OG, Georgia
04/07/22 - Cole Strange, OG/OC, Chattanooga
Jason Kelce is back for another season, but Brandon Brooks retired, meaning Landon Dickerson and Isaac Seumalo will start at OG. I expect Dickerson to slide over to the pivot when Kelce retires, so adding another IOL to the fold makes sense. Salyer played LT at Georgia, but projects as an OG at the next level. He showed he could hold his own against the nation's top pass rushers at OT, including Aidan Hutchinson and Will Anderson, Jr, so he could even fill in at OT in a pinch.
84. Pittsburgh Steelers – Bryan Cook, 6’0”, 203lbs, S, Cincinnati
04/07/22 - Bryan Cook, S, Cincinnati
Terrell Edmunds' time in Pittsburgh may be coming to an end. Adding a versatile safety like Cook who can play over the top or in the box would do the trick should Edmunds move on.
85. New England Patriots – Sean Rhyan, 6’5”, 321lbs, OG, UCLA
04/07/22 - Coby Bryant, CB, Cincinnati
The Patriots traded away Shaq Mason, so I expect the Pats to target an OG who can come in and challenge James Ferentz for a starting spot. Rhyan was an All-Pac 12 OT for the Bruins but is a better projection at OG. Once Rhyan gets his huge hands on a defender, it's over.
86. Las Vegas Raiders – Troy Andersen, 6’3”, 243lbs, LB, Montana State
04/07/22 - Troy Andersen, LB, Montana State
The Raiders need athleticism at the LB position and Andersen may be the most versatile player in the entire draft. He finished ninth in Montana State history in rushing yards and 2nd in rushing TD's as a RB, was a 1st Team All-Big Sky QB is sophomore season, averaged 36.5 yards per punt and racked up 150 tackles in his final season with the Bobcats. His instincts are off the charts and while he's still relatively new to the LB position, Andersen has proven to be a quick study. He's one of the super sleepers in this draft.
87. Arizona Cardinals – James Cook, 5’11”, 199lbs, RB, Georgia
04/07/22 - Martin Emerson. CB, Mississippi State
Chase Edmonds bolted for Miami, but the Cards did re-sign James Conner, so they'll need to find a complementary back and James Cook would be a perfect fit. Cook is strong between the tackles but is at his best on the perimeter and in the passing game out of the backfield. His running style reminds you a lot of his older brother Dalvin.
88. Dallas Cowboys – Khalil Shakir, 6’0”, 196lbs, WR, Boise State
04/07/22 - Khalil Shakir, WR, Boise State
Amari Cooper and Cedrick Wilson are out and James Washington is in so far this offseason with CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup stepping into the primary WR roles. However, Dallas is in need of another target for Dak Prescott. Khalil Shakir reminds me of Amon-Ra St. Brown with his precise route running,
89. Buffalo Bills – Cole Strange, 6’5”, 307lbs, OG/OC, Chattanooga
04/07/22 - James Cook, RB, Georgia
The Bills will look to add pieces along the interior of the OL and Strange, who can play all three interior line positions, would provide depth behind OC Mitch Morse and would push Ryan Bates for a starting spot at LG.
90. Tennessee Titans – Carson Strong, 6’3”, 226lbs, QB, Nevada, Jr.
04/07/22 - Brian Asamoah, LB, Oklahoma
Ryan Tannehill's performance in the playoffs left a lot to be desired and proved the Titans are a QB away from truly contending in the AFC. Even if Tennessee doesn't target Desmond Ridder or Matt Corral in Round One, I expect them to draft a QB to bring some competition to the QB room. Strong may not have the mobility Tannehill has, but he has a cannon for an arm and does a good job manipulating the pocket to buy time to find open WR's.
91. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Cam Taylor-Britt, 5’11”, 196lbs, CB, Nebraska
04/07/22 - Isaiah Likely, 6’4”, 245lbs, TE, Coastal Carolina
Tampa's secondary needs an overhaul and I expect Logan Ryan to push Sean Murphy-Bunting for playing time in the slot. However, I think Jamel Dean also needs to be challenged and the Bucs could find that in Taylor-Britt, who racked up 5 Int. and 22 PBU for the Cornhuskers.
92. Green Bay Packers – Brian Asamoah, 6’0”, 226lbs, LB, Oklahoma
04/07/22 - Jamaree Salyer, 6’3”, 321lbs, OG, Georgia
The Packers have a keeper at ILB in Devondre Campbell and Krys Barnes was the tone setter in the middle, but they need to continue to add athletic pieces to the middle of the defense. Asamoah is an instinctive off-ball linebacker who took great angles getting to the ball carrier. His ability to drop in coverage offers some versatility the Packers could use inside.
93. San Francisco 49ers – Tariq Woolen, 6’4”, 205lbs, CB, UTSA
04/07/22 - Zach Tom, 6’4”, 304lbs, OC, Wake Forest
The 49ers brought in Charvarius Ward at CB to team with Emmanuel Moseley and Ambry Thomas, the Niners' 3rd Round pick from last year. However, depth is a concern. Woolen, a converted WR, brings some eye-popping traits to the table with his 4.26 speed paired with his tremendous length. He's still learning the position, but he showed the ability to turn and run with wideouts and if he can continue to develop, could be a starter in time.
94. Kansas City Chiefs – Jerome Ford, 5’10”, 210lbs, RB, Cincinnati
04/07/22 - Alontae Taylor, 6’0”, 199lbs, CB, Tennessee
KC has always had a RB-by-committee approach to their running game and while Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Ronald Jones II seem to be a good combo on the ground, I expect the Chiefs to target one more back to enter the fold. Cincinnati's offense may have had Desmond Ridder under center, but it went as Jerome Ford did. He put up 1,334 yards and 19 TD on the ground and showed elusiveness in the hole and the ability to take it the distance on any carry. Plus, he's a solid pass catcher out of the backfield. He would be an explosive change of pace for this backfield.
95. Cincinnati Bengals – Isaiah Likely, 6’4”, 245lbs, TE, Coastal Carolina
04/07/22 - Jaylen Watson, CB, Washington State
CJ Uzomah was such a big weapon down the stretch for Joe Burrow and now that he's gone and even with the addition of Hayden Hurst, Cincy will need to add another weapon in the passing game. Likely is a vertical
96. Denver Broncos (from LA Rams) – Myjai Sanders, 6’5”, 247lbs, DE/OLB, Cincinnati
04/07/22 - Kingsley Enagbare, DE, South Carolina
Denver brought in Randy Gregory to team with Bradley Chubb to get after the QB but adding another athletic edge rusher like Sanders to push Malik Reed for playing time would help solidify their pass rush. Sanders has a quick get-off and works hard to bend the edge and get to the QB. He'll be a nice rotational piece.
97. Detroit Lions (compensatory selection) – Romeo Doubs, 6’2”, 201lbs, WR, Nevada, Jr.
04/07/22 - Alec Pierce, WR, Cincinnati
98. New Orleans Saints (compensatory selection) – Jeremy Ruckert, 6’5”, 250lbs, TE, Ohio State
04/07/22 - Carson Strong, QB, Nevada
99. Cleveland Browns (compensatory selection) –Josh Paschal, 6’3”, 268lbs, DE, Kentucky
04/07/22 - Josh Paschal, DE, Kentucky
100. Baltimore Ravens (compensatory selection) –Alex Wright, 6’5”, 271lbs, DE/OLB, UAB
04/07/22 - Christian Harris, ILB, Alabama
Baltimore continues to look for edge rush help to team with Odafe Oweh. Wright is raw, but has tremendous length and a good get-off and uses his hands well to turn the corner and get after the QB.
101. Philadelphia Eagles (from New Orleans compensatory selection) – Damarri Mathis, 5’11”, 195lbs, CB, Pittsburgh
04/07/22 - Matthew Butler, DT, Tennessee
Darius Slay is the clear CB1 for Philly, but Steven Nelson is gone in free agency while Avonte Maddox is best suited inside. If the Eagles don't target Trent McDuffie in Round One, expect them to take a corner on Day 2. Mathis has good ball skills, as evidenced by the 5 Int. and 18 PBU in his career, and has fluid hips to pair with the speed, having run a 4.39 40 at the Combine.
102. Miami Dolphins (from San Francisco compensatory selection) – Dameon Pierce, 5’10, 218lbs, RB, Florida
04/07/22 - Tariq Castro-Fields, CB, Penn State
Miami has a loaded backfield with Chase Edmonds, Raheem Mostert, Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed, but all four backs are little guys. What the Dolphins need is a physical presence in the backfield and Pierce is a bowling ball in the backfield, running with tremendous power between the tackles.
103. Kansas City Chiefs (compensatory selection) – Darrian Beavers, 6’4”, 237lbs, LB, Cincinnati
04/07/22 - Dameon Pierce, RB, Florida
KC will look to add depth to the LB position behind Willie Gay and Nick Bolton. Beavers gives off serious Zaven Collins vibes as a bigger, versatile LB. Beavers has the range to play sideline to sideline, is effective blitzing the QB coming off the edge with the ability to dip his shoulder and turn the corner and can drop into coverage against RB's and TE's. His explosiveness was even on display on his social media accounts that showed him throwing down a 360-degree dunk on the basketball field.
104. Los Angeles Rams (compensatory selection) – DeAngelo Malone, 6’3”, 243lbs, OLB, Western Kentucky
04/07/22 - DeAngelo Malone, OLB, Western Kentucky
Von Miller is now in Buffalo, so the Rams have to find a way to replace his production getting after the QB. Malone is an undersized OLB who plays bigger than his size will indicate. He has a good burst, plays with great leverage and can convert speed to power to drive OT's into the backfield. Malone filled the stat sheet for the Hilltoppers with 349 tackles, 59 TFL, 32.5 sacks, 7 PBU and 8 forced fumbles. His relentless energy will fit in well up front with the Rams.
105. San Francisco 49ers (compensatory selection) – Marcus Jones, 5’8”, 174lbs, CB, Houston
04/07/22 - Ed Ingram, OG, LSU
The Niners will continue to add playmakers to their secondary and Jones proved to be just that following a breakout 2021 season at the CB position. Jones finished the season with 5 Int. and 13 PBU, showing off impressive ball skills. However, Jones will make an immediate impact in the return game, a definite need for San Francisco. Jones finished his career with nine career returns (6 punt, 3 kicks) for TD.
